This summer it is extremely important to stay hydrated. In order to stay hydrated you should drink half your body weight in ounces. For example, if I weigh 150 lb I should drink 75 oz of water each day. Caffeine can dehydrate your body. Limiting drinks containing caffeine such as coffee, tea, and some sodas is encouraged.
The elderly are at a higher risk of getting dehydrated due to them naturally having less water in their bodies. Dehydration can quickly lead to a variety of problems, particularly in older adults. Some of these problems may include constipation, electrolyte imbalances, kidney problems, and even loss of balance.
In the Southern Utah heat, we encourage you to drink plenty of water and stay safe this summer.
